The Doon School has a rich history that dates back to its founding in 1935. Its founder, S. R. Das which was an alumni of Manchester Grammar School in England, returned to India with a vision. As the Advocate General of Bengal and a member of the Viceroy’s Executive Council, he was determined to establish a school that mirrored the British private boarding school model, yet was uniquely Indian at its core. His dream was to offer Indian students (boys) the caliber of education he received in Manchester, without the need to leave their homeland.

The Doon School Admission

Admission to The Doon School is offered annually to eligible boys, with admissions for 8th standard students (C form) being offered in January, and admissions for eligible students for 7th standard (D form) being offered in April. To qualify for admission to The Doon School in the 7th standard, a student must be aged between 11 and 12 years as of September of the year of the entrance examination. Similarly, to be eligible for admission to the 8th standard, a student must have completed 12 years of age and should be under 13 years of age as of September of the entrance examination year.

The Doon School, Dehradun has specific eligibility criteria for admission, which are as follows:

  1. Admission for 7th Grade students: To be eligible for admission in the 7th Grade, applicants must be between the ages of 11 and 12 years old. They should maintain this age range until the entrance examination, which takes place in November every year.

  2. Admission for 8th Grade students: For admission to the 8th Grade, applicants must be between the ages of 12 and 13 years old. They must maintain this age range until the entrance examination, which is also held in November every year. The admission process for The Doon School typically begins in January and continues until April, during which eligible candidates can apply for admission. The Doon School Entrance Exam

The Doon School admission process consists of two stages: Stage I and Stage II.

Stage I involves a written exam which will be conducted in major cities such as Dehradun, Mumbai, Kolkata, Bangalore, Chennai, Lucknow, Jaipur, Hyderabad, etc. The exam will consist of four papers: English, Maths, Science, and Case Study and Psychometric Test. The test will comprise of a combination of subjective and objective questions, with each subject having 30 questions. Candidates will be allotted 45 minutes for each subject.

Stage II includes subject-wise interviews, each lasting between 15 to 20 minutes.

Stage III will consist of a personal interview and Group Discussion (GD). Students who pass the written exam will be called for the personal interview stage. The interviews will be conducted in December at the school premises and in selected cities such as Kolkata, Mumbai, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, etc.

The eligibility criteria for admission to The Doon School in 2022 are as follows:

  1. For admission to 7th grade, candidates must have turned 11 years old and be under 12 years old as of September of the year of the entrance exam.
  2. For admission to 8th grade, candidates must have turned 12 years old and be under 13 years old as of September of the year of the entrance exam.
